The Concept of Beauty

The concept of beauty has always given me food for thought. I've always wondered what exactly is beautiful and what is not. Some people are not exactly attractive but still have a charm or attraction in them. Is beauty on the inside or on the outside? Inside; it is the heart and soul that beautifies a person while others may consider the appearance or facial attraction as beauty. Is beauty natural or can be artificially created? Let us talk about these aspects of beauty.

For an apple cheeked women, hair has always been an important aspect of beauty. Although hair styles and hair colors go on changing from time to time when hair extensions come in fashion, they can be found in all styles and colors as portrayed by pop stars such as Beyonce Knowles who was seen trying hair extensions. In Eastern Europe and Asia, long hair is a major constituent of beauty as women with long hair are considered more beautiful which shows how beauty varies from culture to culture. Different hair styles and haircuts can be used to make the face look slimmer or to make women appear younger. Obviously, there are different hairstyles appropriate for different ages.Nowadays it is in normal for women of more than thirty years of age to keep grey hair and not to use hair dyes.

Hand and nails can play a major role in making someone look pretty. Pedicure manicures and nail fashion which are the other names of painting nails using different colors, designs is becoming very popular these days.. Red nail varnish is in fashion and many women especially teenagers are following this trend, the trend originated from the era of marlin Monroe. Movies play a major role in establishing what is meant by beautiful during certain time. For example, many women idealize different film characters or movie stars and try to be like them. It has been said that most women are never satisfied with themselves and will try different trends and fashion to look beautiful without thinking if it suits them or not. They will copy celebrities and try to look like them. The youth also look up to their role models and follow what they are wearing and what they wear becomes fashion.

Most people say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and everyone has a different image of beauty is being yourself and being what you want to be, dressing the way you want to dress, and being confident about yourself. Beauty comes from the inside rather than from physical appearance.

Fashion always varies in nature besides being short lived. When a fashion is in full swing, it is visible in what we wear, designs of our clothes, hair styles, nails, etc. No doubt, fashion is a way of making oneself appear beautiful but everyone has his own concept and definition of beauty. Some people say that real beauty is the beauty of face while other think those sterling qualities of head and heart constitute the real beauty. Some hold the view that real beauty lies in the face of a man because soul secretes the face as a shell-fish secretes its shell. Face is the index of the mind. However, a thing of beauty is a joy forever because truth is beauty and beauty is truth.

Rawsome Beauty: Luck of the Draw or Within Reach of All?

Excerpted from the book "Your Right to Be Beautiful: How to Halt the Train of Aging and Meet the Most Beautiful You" by Tonya Zavasta.

All of my life, I wanted to be beautiful. In today's society, it is more acceptable to insist that you are "beautiful on the inside", unfortunately, those of us on the outside are not seeing your insides. Wanting to be beautiful is now criticized as being shallow. I'm sorry but I would rather be perceived as shallow than hypocritical because I find it impossible to believe than any women is content to be less than she can be.

Personal initiative is a powerful force in achieving goals and attaining wealth. What about beauty? Are we desperately helpless here, or is there a way to bring it under personal control? I believe we have as much leverage in becoming beautiful as we have in accomplishing anything else we set our minds to. But we have not been looking in the right places for beauty.

The most inspiring books about becoming wealthy are written by people who have made it from rags to riches. However, advice on becoming beautiful often comes from those blessed with exceptional beauty to begin with. For a woman born beautiful to teach others how to become beautiful is like a sweepstakes winner teaching people how to earn a fortune through hard work. Is there a means for achieving beauty for those of us who are not big winners in the gene lottery?

Good news! It is biologically possible to look beautiful at any age. If you do not see yourself as beautiful, it is because your beauty is unclaimed. Your body has never been given a chance to reveal how it can look when provided with the best possible nourishment and care.

Some of our physical characteristics we cannot change--they are determined by our lineage, food choices our mothers made during pregnancy, and our environment. Oriental diagnosis has noted that small eyes are caused by consumption of cooked vegetables and animal products during pregnancy and early childhood. Large eyes, on the other hand, are caused by intake of raw vegetables, fruits, and fruit juices. Long eyelashes in a child indicate the intake of substantial amounts of liquids, raw vegetables, and fruits by the pregnant mother.

These things we cannot change. We can change much, however, by the consumption of a raw plant diet as an adult. This diet will make a difference in weight, complexion, and the texture of skin, hair, and nails. All of these traits and more are determined by our daily choices, with food being one of the most important--and one we have full control of.

Our bodies' natural ability to renew cells means that your body is capable of improving your looks. After all, we were designed to bloom continuously as old cells are replaced by new ones. The raw food diet makes the most of that rejuvenating ability. Rawsome beauty is not manufactured from the outside; it is cultivated from the inside by nutritionally charged food. The body responds with alacrity to an improved diet. As the body strengthens and heals your insides, you will see your beauty starting to surface on your face and re-structuring your body.

The artistic ability of your body will surprise you. It will seem as though a sculptor is chiseling your face and body. Fat deposits will disappear from the right spots. Everything bumpy or lumpy will be smoothed or straightened. Everything dull will be illuminated. The features will be refined until a lovely face surfaces, and the skin will be polished until it glows. By revealing and intensifying what is good, the raw food lifestyle will make the best of whatever goodness you have and will open every avenue for more. This lifestyle bestows upon you an identity of your own and makes you beautiful.

Only the body sustained on raw food demonstrates natural beauty or, shall we say, "rawsome beauty." The landscape of the body will change. Fat that has accumulated in pockets under the eyes and at the jaw will melt away. The lumpy potato look of one's face will give way to sleek, smooth contours. Pockets of fat and retained water will disappear. The surface of the skin will become soft and smooth yet firm and supple. Visible pores will diminish. Sallow, yellowish skin will turn into a porcelain-like complexion. The whites of the eyes, once red, will become bright with a bluish tinge.

The body becomes transformed and will unfold from the inside out. While your non-raw-eating peers discover new blemishes, blotches, and moles on a nearly daily basis, you will see your own skin irregularities gradually fade or disappear. Feeding your body raw food will make your eyes, once sunken in bulbous flesh, look larger and rounder by eliminating the surrounding puffiness and by firming the eyelids. Eyebrows that were beginning to form an awning over the eyes will regain their youthful arch. As natural collagen production improves, it will fill in the places where it is needed, as in hollow cheeks. It will not just patch your face, but it will improve every one of your 3,000 square inches of skin.

Raw food eating will clarify and refine your features and bring delicacy to your face. This diet will give the impression of high cheekbones. In fact, it will give the effect of a cheek implant, by providing a subtle contour to the cheek area. The blurred chin-to-neck curve will become sharper and more pronounced. Broad jaws and square jowls will slowly give way to a more desirable oval shape. Sagging cheeks will gradually become tauter and tighter. Incidentally, an oval-shaped face, high cheekbones, thin jaws, and large eyes are universally considered to be the major characteristics of a beautiful face.

As the cleansing is completed, you will see how you were meant to look. You will become satisfied, even fascinated, with your appearance. When you look your very best, you look perfect, in a sense that you are as close to the divine image for yourself as you could ever be. You accept yourself completely. Natural beauty is above conformity; it doesn't demand to be accepted by the dictates of the beauty norm.

People who have been on the raw food lifestyle for several years begin to have an emerging radiance. The glow is hard to fake because it is basically internal. It comes from an abundance of clear pink, almost transparent, cells that light up the face. Only superior blood circulation can bring this transfiguring glow. Several years on the raw diet will give you a translucent radiance.

There are beautiful people who are not on the diet, but even they have never been as beautiful as they could be because they have not been cleansed of all toxins. Our frustration with our looks is a subconscious reaction to our innate knowledge that we have not achieved our best look. The Rawsome Diet gives us confidence that we look the way we were meant to look when we are at our most beautiful.

The best proof that raw plant eating is optimal for the body is that it makes you beautiful. Slim face, slender waist, and clear skin with smooth coloration--these subtle changes will convince you that the raw plant diet is the best for good health and graceful beauty. No woman knows her true beauty until she cleanses her body completely of all waste.

I like to study each woman's face. I see not just how she does look, but how much better she could look. What I now see is just how far her looks fall short of her potential. I see her beauty as it would be if her body had been cleansed from all toxins and excesses. On the Rawsome Diet, you will be stunned by how the Master Artist makes the most of your individual features and brings balance to the face. Texture, hues, and shape will be re-arranged into a harmonious whole. Perfection and imperfection will be joined into a unique personal beauty.

But our imagination is limited. The perfect face is an invention of our culture. It shows human preference in particular time and place, and it is severely limited in its variety. While eye bags, puffiness, and sallow skin make faces look similarly unattractive, the variety of beauty versions, supplied by God Himself, is endless.

When your peer group is going through a stage where they think: "I am losing my looks," you will be finding yours. At 47, I enjoy looking in the mirror, while in my youth and young adult life I detested my reflection. People who have not seen me for years often tell me that they hardly recognize me. Even my mother recently said I looked like a different person.

Adopting the raw food diet actually brings the beauty equation full circle. Finally, beauty is for everyone! We can drop the pretence. Ugly Ducklings of the world, this is your chance! It is forgivable to be born ugly, but there is no more excuse for staying ugly. Healthy foods create healthy organs. Strive to become beautiful on the inside--you will be beautiful on the outside.

Truth, Beauty, Goodness

Can one know what true beauty and goodness are? Is there an objectivity to these attributes, or are they merely what one perceives them to be? Let us focus on what God has created women to be and what society tells them to be. Does the truth lie in women being successful career women to the exclusion of their own feminine nature; in being dependent on the admiration of others for their self-worth; or in their being mere physical objects of pleasure? Or are they called to find the truth of their dignity in the model of Mary, Virgin Mother of God, who reflects and participates in the Divine Truth, Beauty, and Goodness of which all creation is called to reflect and share in?

The question of truth, beauty, and goodness is one that has intrigued men for centuries. The pagan philosophers seek to identify that which is True, Good, and Beautiful. For the Christian, however, there can be no other answer than that which affirms that the Triune God is the True, the Beautiful, and the Good. By His very essence God is all three. Everything else is so only by participation. We can know this because God has chosen to reveal Himself to us. The Catechism of the Catholic Church #2500 tells us that "even before revealing Himself to man in words of truth, God reveals Himself to (man) through the universal language of creation." All creation reflects its Creator; therefore, we can see something of Beauty itself in creation. Truth, beauty, and goodness, which are called "the transcendentals," cannot be separated from one another because they are a unity as the Trinity is One. Truth is beautiful in itself. And goodness describes all that God has made. "God saw all that He had made, and it was very good" (Gen.1:31).

Man is the summit of the Creator's work, as Scripture expresses by clearly distinguishing the creation of man from that of other creatures. "God created man in His own image..." (Gen. 1:27). Thus, man was not only created good and beautiful, but he was also established in friendship with his Creator and in harmony with himself and with the creation around him, in a state that would be surpassed only by the glory of the new creation in Christ. The inner harmony of the first man, the harmony between the first man and woman (Adam and Eve), and the harmony between the first couple and all creation, is called "original justice." This entire harmony of original justice was lost by the sin of our first parents. Created in a state of holiness, man was destined to be fully "divinized" by God in glory. But he preferred himself to God and disobeyed God's command.

Thus, Adam and Eve immediately lost the grace of original holiness, and the harmony in which they had lived was destroyed. They were separated from Beauty Itself. God, however did not abandon mankind, all of whom share in the sin of Adam, since "by one man's disobedience all were made sinners" (Rom. 5:12). In the fullness of time God sent His Son to restore that which had been lost. The Son, who is "beautiful above the sons of men," came to restore us to beauty.

Thus, we turn now to beauty. Von Balthasar once remarked that when one is seeking to draw others to God, he should begin with beauty because beauty attracts. Beauty will then lead to truth and goodness. Hence, if one is going to begin with beauty then one must know what beauty is. I will make a distinction between two types of beauty, although only one of them is beauty in the truest sense of the definition. There is "seductive" beauty, which is often reflected in our current culture. This would entail whatever allures us to our self-destruction (morally or spiritually). It takes us away from what we were created for, union with Beauty Himself. This type of beauty I will return to, but first I want to establish a definition and proper understanding of what "true" beauty is. This is first and foremost whatever attracts us to our true fulfillment and happiness. In his book The Beauty of Holiness and the Holiness of Beauty, John Saward, drawing on the work of St.Thomas Aquinas, defines beauty as: "the gleaming of the substantial or actual form that is found in the proportioned parts of a material things." In other words, while one can find beauty in the outward appearance, one must go deeper to the nature or the essence of the thing.

"Thus, in a material substance (such as man) there is beauty when the essence of a thing shines clearly through its outward appearance." The beauty of one's soul can be said to shine through a person's countenance. For this to occur, three things are necessary -wholeness (integrity), due proportion (harmony), and radiance (clarity). It is important to note that understood in this definition is the fact that beauty is a reality in itself, it is not something that we produce by looking at a work of art or some other thing that attracts us. Rather, beauty radiates out of what we see. It radiates out because it is participating in Beauty itself. In regards to Jesus, "Christian Tradition - from Augustine and Hilary to Peter Lombard, Albert, Thomas, and Bonaventure - holds that beauty can be appropriated in a special way to the Second Person..."

St. Thomas says that all three marks of beauty are found in Jesus. Radiance is found in Him because He is the Word of the Father, and the Word eternally uttered by the Father completely and perfectly expresses Him. He is the brightness of the Father's mind. Due proportion is found in the Son of God because He is the perfect image of the Father. As the perfect image, He is divine beauty. Jesus has wholeness because He has in Himself the whole nature of the Father. In begetting the Son, the Father communicates the whole of His divine essence. Thus, we have a Divine Person, God the Son, who without ceasing to be true God, has been made true man for us in the Virgin's womb. When one sees the Virgin and the Child, one sees a witness to the Trinity. Pope John Paul II explains that this picture of Mother and Child "constitutes a silent but firm statement of Mary's virginal motherhood, and for that very reason, of the Son's divinity."

It is as such a witness to the Trinity that allows Mary a special place in relationship to the True, the Good, and the Beautiful. The Blessed Virgin, said the fifteenth century poet John Lydgate, is the "Fairest Mother that ever was alive." Many poets and artists have sought to express their praise and admiration for Her who is so closely united to Divinity. When Dante reaches Paradise, he finds the beauty of the Son of God most perfectly mirrored in Mary, of whom He was born. Thus, we will see how Mary is to be for all, but especially women, a model of true beauty, and thus, goodness and truth, as she reflects a sharing in the life of the Trinity. "All the beauty for soul and body that the Son of God brought into the world, all the loveliness He wanted to lavish on mankind, is summed up in, and mediated by the person of His ever virgin Mother, 'a woman clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars' (Rev. 12:1). If there is beauty, it is here."

To understand Mary's beauty, one must know of the gifts bestowed on her, and her response to these gifts, which put her in intimate contact with Beauty, Itself. Scripture, God's revealed Word, tells us that "an angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph...and the virgin's name was Mary. And he (the angel) came to her and said, 'Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you! ... Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call Him Jesus. He will be great and called the Son of the Most High...And Mary said, ' How can this be since I have no husband?' And the angel said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.' ...And Mary said, 'Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.'" (Lk. 1:26-38).

To become the mother of the Savior, Mary was given the gifts necessary and befitting such a role. Mary was greeted as "full of grace," as if that were her real name. A name expresses a person's identity. "Full of grace" is Mary's essence, her identity, and the meaning of her life. Mary is full of grace because the Lord is with her. The grace with which she is filled is the presence of Him who is the source of all grace, and she is given over to Him who has come to dwell in her and whom she is about to give to the world. She is by a singular grace free from any stain of sin by reason of the merits of her Son. She possesses the harmony that Adam lost. Thus, she has the first two qualities of beauty: due proportion (harmony) and integrity (wholeness) because by the merits of her Son and the fullness of grace which she has been given, her nature is complete - unwounded and unstained by sin.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church proclaims that "Mary, the all-holy ever-virgin Mother of God, is the masterwork of the mission of the Son and the Spirit in the fullness of time...In her, the 'wonders of God' that the Spirit was to fulfill in Christ and in the Church began to be manifested." Through Mary, the Holy Spirit begins to bring men, "the objects of God's merciful love, into communion with Christ."

Grace has been described as "God's better beauty, the splendor of the soul." And Mary, who is full of grace, radiates that splendor, that spiritual beauty. Grace (sanctifying grace) gives us a share in the Divine Life; it conforms our souls into the likeness of Christ. Mary in her abundance of grace is a reflected beauty of her Son. She possesses the "radiance" which is the third of the qualities of beauty. The great St. Bernard of Clairvaux declares that "contemplating the countenance of the Mother is the best way of preparing to see the glorious face of the Son." Saward endorses this idea by pointing to the fact that Our Lord is conceived by the Holy Spirit without seed, thus there is only one human person whom He resembles in His humanity, and that is His Virgin Mother.

How does Mary's beauty enable women of today to be an image of true beauty, and hence of truth and goodness also? Mary, the Theotokos - the Mother of God, the Mother of Infinite Beauty, who is herself beautiful, will guide women to that which is true and good. She shows the falsehood of "seductive beauty," which we have noted above as being whatever allures us to our self-destruction (morally or spiritually), by holding up her own "true" beauty in contrast. Before showing the essence of Mary's beauty, which meets St. Thomas' requirements for beauty: wholeness, due proportion, and radiance, we will look at society's claim of womanly beauty. Women today are told by society that what is good and beautiful is that which is glamorous and seductive. Beauty is separated from God, Who is disregarded and Whose goodness is exchanged for a "base mind and improper conduct" (Rom. 1:28), leading to both spiritual and often physical dissolution. The "truth" that they are taught is one which "considers the human being (and hence, the woman) not as a person but as a thing, as an object of trade, at the service of selfish interest and mere pleasure... this falsehood produces such bitter fruits as contempt for men and for women, slavery, oppression of the weak, pornography, prostitution..."

Thus, beauty is often seen as a mere physical quality. It lacks "due proportion" because only one aspect of the whole person is considered. Society emphasizes the physical to the exclusion of the spiritual. Flowing from this same type of mentality, we see that women are honored more for their work outside the home than for their work within the family. What is "seen" as attractive is a woman who is able to achieve the "good" of a successful career, which promises happiness and "equality with men." In order to achieve this, women often times either renounce their femininity or become a mere imitation of the male role. They are in a sense trading in the quality of "integrity," which is necessary for true beauty, for society's limited claim of the beautiful. This "seductive beauty" which promises so much "good" gives rise to a hedonism that distorts and falsifies human sexuality and the true dignity of the human person. This leads not only to a lack of respect for what womanhood is to be, since the truth about their personal dignity as one who was created and redeemed by God is unknown, but it also hinders women from achieving the "fullness of grace" for which they were created. It leads to women's spiritual destruction because they are not living a life of grace. They are not living for God.

Mary, who lived a grace-filled life, is, however, the model of redeemed woman. God Himself "manifests the dignity of women in the highest form possible by assuming human flesh from the Virgin Mary, whom the Church honors as the Mother of God." The highest elevation of the human nature took place in the masculine gender, when Jesus, the Son of God, became man and male. The highest elevation of the human person took place in the feminine gender, in the Virgin Mary. Her divine maternity gives her an exalted dignity. She is "blessed among women." Therefore, all womanhood shares in her blessing and is made radiant by her. "When the Virgin Mary is humbly honored for the sake of her Son, women will be honored...for she has revealed the true beauty of womanhood."

Looking at what we have already said about Mary, we know "full of grace" reveals her essence, her identity. It is also the key to her reflection of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful. It is the key to women discovering the truth of their own dignity, and hence, obtaining the divine life that is offered to them through a life of grace. This is a life that will bestow on them true goodness and beauty, which is a participation in the beauty of the Creator.

Because Mary is "full of grace," she possesses the wholeness that was lost by Adam. Because of grace, she is "radiant as the sun," showing in her very being the clarity of a life united with God. Such a union shines forth in a person's actions; actions which are a reflection of God's goodness. "The practice of goodness is accompanied by spontaneous spiritual joy and moral beauty" (CCC 2500). These actions, called virtues, "are acquired by education, by deliberate acts and by a perseverance ever-renewed in repeated efforts are purified and elevated by divine grace" (CCC1810). Grace affects every dimension of a person's life. It is a gift of God that leads us closer to God. The closer we are to God, the more we reflect Him who is Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

Mary is held up for us as the model of the life of virtue. She is a guide in living a life of faithfulness to grace. Due to space limitation, I will only briefly look at three of the virtues that Mary possesses and calls us to imitate. They are faith, obedience, and charity. The Church hails Mary as an "excellent exemplar in faith and charity" (Lumen Gentium 53). We see her faith when she entrusts herself freely to God at the Annunciation, believing and trusting the angel's message to her that the son to be born to her would be the Son of the Most High, certain that "with God nothing is impossible" (Lk. 1:30). Her journey of faith continues in her responses to that which occurs in her life of union with Jesus. She flees to Egypt when Joseph is directed to go there (Mt. 2:13-15); she returns in the same manner (Mt. 2:19-23); and she faithfully perseveres in her union with her Son unto the cross (cf. LG#58, Jn.19:25-27), all the while believing and trusting in the wisdom of God's divine plan. She believed that her Son, though crucified and buried, would rise from the dead. She waited in prayer (Acts 1:14). We, too, are called to be women of faith, believing what God has revealed concerning His plan for us and our salvation.

Flowing from Mary's deep faith, she shows her loving obedience. Hers was not a servile obedience. Rather it was an obedience that flowed from humility. She knew the wisdom and greatness of God and therefore, sought to live in conformity with it. Being obedient to God meant responding in trust to His all-wise plan. Again, at the Annunciation, she replies in obedience to the angel, "Let it be done to me as you say" (Lk. 1:36). She obediently follows the directions that the angel gives to Joseph, trusting in God. Mary remained obedient to her role as mother even to the cross, where she obediently offers the full assent of her intellect and will to Him whose ways are inscrutable. As we seek to imitate Mary's obedience, we will find that it frees us from the slavery of sin. Obedience makes us beautiful because it opens us up to God's grace, to His life and love within us.

Mary's faith and obedience allows her great charity to shine through. Mary, the Mother of Fairest Love, possesses a self-humbling love, innocent of all narcissism. "It is for Christ and to the glory of the Father, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, that our Lady is 'all fair.'" She devotes herself "totally as a handmaid of the Lord to the person and work of her Son... she does this freely" (LG # 56). This acceptance of her role as "Mother of the Son of God (is) guided by spousal love, the love which totally consecrates a human being to God. By virtue of this love, Mary wished to always be and in all things given to God." This love that remains faithful to her Son throughout His life, even to His cruel death on Calvary, extends itself to the brethren of her Son, those souls still journeying on earth (cf. LG #62-63). There is nothing more beautiful than charity, which we are all called to practice, and which inspires and animates all the other virtues (cf. CCC 1827). Charity, the form of all virtues "binds everything together in perfect harmony" (Col. 3:14), one of the aspects of beauty.

These virtues and the life of grace are possible for all women, who seek to know the truth and avail themselves of the grace that comes from the merits of Jesus Christ, who came to restore mankind to the beauty of adopted children and "partakers in the divine nature" (1 Pt. 1:3). St. Francis de Sales notes that because of grace we are so like Christ that we resemble God perfectly, because in His becoming man, Jesus has taken our likeness and given us His. Thus, we must do what we can to preserve this beauty and divine resemblance that He has restored to us.

Mary helps women to do this. Her beauty attracts, and because it attracts she leads us to Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn.14:6). Mary is loved and honored because she reflects the truth, beauty, and goodness of her Son by her actions, by her life of virtue. Her role is to lead others to Him and to the truth he teaches and is. This is seen by looking once again at how creation reflects the beauty of God. All that God creates is good; it is beautiful. Jesus, who is the fullness of revelation, has raised creation to an even higher dignity by restoring all things "according to the plan God was pleased to restore in Christ. A plan to be carried out in Christ, in the fullness of time, to bring all things into one in Him, in the heavens and on earth" (Eph. 1:9-10). Thus, harmony is restored, all is made whole, and His glory is made known. Because the "Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son of the Father" (Jn. 1:14)

Man was created in the image and likeness of God; Jesus renewed humanity in His immortal image. He restored us to the likeness of God. Mary reflects the beauty of her Son in her very essence. Mary is the one who will, in cooperation with her Divine Son, help women to discover the truth of their feminine nature, to reflect the beauty of a child of God, and by God's grace to live that goodness that comes from God alone. Women, to attain this ideal, must turn to Mary as a model, who has been chosen by God from all eternity to be the Mother of His Son, and to be a guide for us on our journey to the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, our true fulfillment and happiness. Women should entrust themselves to Mary's guidance because she already is that which they are called to be: full of grace. As the Church prays in the Divine Liturgy: Lord, as we honor the glorious memory of the Virgin Mary, we ask that by the help of Her prayers, we too may come to share the fullness of Your grace," so that by that grace we too may reflect that which is True, Beautiful, and Good.

I'll Never Be Beautiful Enough

Q: What kind of girl do you want?

A: The perfectly beautiful one

Q: Why do you still stay with her when you can't stand her?
A: Because she's gorgeous.

Q: How come you are so fascinated by that woman?
A: Have you noticed her legs?

Q: What makes a woman beautiful?
A: Long legs, beautiful smile, tiny waistline, big bust, long hair, etc

Is it any wonder that throughout my years of growing up that I never once felt like I was going to be beautiful enough? Maybe that is the reason behind my (insane) hatred for Megan Fox, well, I think her marketing concept is ditzy, though. But at the end of the day, this is how superficial men and women are. The attack is not on men alone, but women is pretty much the same. We want handsome men, tall, with money, if possible with a mansion, who is loving and caring, understands our needs but also drives a Jaguar around.

*roll eyes*

There was once a man who told me that he thought that I was beautiful and I burst into tears. No, seriously, because deep inside me, when someone tells me that I was beautiful, the spotlight would instantly be turned towards all the ugly things that I could think of about myself. I can't help it, I grew up with this.

People grow up and learn a few things or two about being beautiful. At the end of the day, I have failed to notice all the beautiful things about me that has nothing to do with what people can see with their eyes. I have many beautiful things inside of me that people can feel with their hearts instead.

And that is part of the reason why I have denounce all superficial things...not that I don't still like pretty clothes and make-up but I have more or less accepted myself for what I am and finally think that, 'YES, I AM BEAUTIFUL'.

That is because one person may think that Jessica Alba is hot, another might think she looks cock-eyed in some photos. So, physical beauty is very subjective. But when you are beautiful on the inside, it is universal. Like kindness, being caring, ability to share, friendliness, a smile and friendship. It is when you are beautiful in that way that you are universally beautiful to almost everyone in your life.

So, yes, I may never be beautiful enough for some people but I am beautiful enough for the people I love, care about and that is enough.

Smile because it is the most compelling beauty EVER. Reach out to your friends and help them even when it goes unappreciated. One day, they will. Forgive people and your enemy for their mistakes because they are going through a journey too. Accept your friends for who they are because they are here to complement you, not compliment you.

And finally, be beautiful on the inside because that is THE ONLY WAY to forever be beautiful.

Beauty and Health - What it Means to You Today

The concept of beauty is not easy to define. In many societies physical beauty is seen to have acceptable norms but some of those norms still vary between cultures. Over time, we have started to see the use of many different products that enhance and maintain personal beauty. We also see a more useful emphasis on health as an important part of beauty. All this raises many questions. Do we expect more from our physical presentation than our ancestors? What brought us to where we are today? We now have access to a wide range of natural, synthetic and medical products that support this but what do we choose to use?

Historical Beauty Concepts

Is beauty more important today than it was in the past? Probably not, the struggle to represent beauty in art has been repeated over the ages to reveal that beauty exists consistently in many past cultures. These similarities cannot be ignored as we try to understand our need to look beautiful.

From ancient Egypt the royal bust of Nefertiti (wife of Akhenaton) is considered today a classical example of female facial beauty. Greek sculptors celebrated the beauty of both male and female bodies. Modern art has moved away from realism so beauty is more readily expressed through photographs.

Although we associate youth with beauty, there is a growing acceptance of maintaining beauty among mature people who are also developing a healthy lifestyle. So, what beauty products do we use today?

Natural Beauty Products

Many natural products are still used for beauty preparations. In England - cold tea bags refresh eyes, Japan - soya germs, rice and seaweed keep the skin soft, Spain - olive oil used in face masks, Latin America - avocado in hair conditioning, Italy - basil leaf for teeth whitener, Argentina - cream softens and moistens skin.

Modern Beauty Products

A number of products are obtainable for enhancing looks and healthy lifestyles. Teeth whitening products have been developed and used by dentists are also available to the public. Hair products are at hand help maintain healthy hair. Cosmetic products are accepted as being safe when used as directed. Diet and exercise products and programs are becoming very popular. In choosing these products the user needs to look for simplicity in ingredients, follow manufacturers' instructions, and use moderately.

The beauty and health products available online are too numerous to find easily. There are a number of websites at hand that will identify and provide access to a limited number of popular products. That is where you need to go for ideas on acceptable beauty products.

How Can a Fat Person Become Beautiful?

Now the world getting divided into two religions, rich and poor. We have very less time in our hand to think about who is beautiful and who is not. Still people find beauty, want to be beautiful. If we describe classical ideal of beauty, may be the definition have become changed and taken the form like this "money makes beautiful". A rich person is beautiful in all shapes and sizes.

All that we see by normal eyes may be beautiful for some seconds or some days or some years but may not be really beautiful for a long time. Outlook imparts a quick and momentary impulse on our nerves. The rhythm of that impulse gradually decreases with time. A good look enchants us naturally at a glance. This is true for a natural beauty or a human beauty. A beautiful tourist place may not seem beautiful to your eyes after 1 year because some drawbacks of that beautiful place must come to your eyes within the time span of 1 year. For human beauty also, a very good looking friend becomes enemy after 1 year. So, where is the nest of absolute beauty? The answer is simple "beauty remains within our brain". Something which is eternal, true, does not change with time is beautiful.

As said above, fat or slim outlook imparts a momentary effect to the eyes of the viewer. There are 37% people allover the globe that admires fat people and the rest are lover of slim physique. The classical ideal of feminine beauty, as defined by sculptures such as the Venus de Medici and the Winged Victory of Samothrace generally prevailed throughout Western history, until well into the twentieth century. Notable among these is Elena Miro's 2003-2005 campaign featuring model Barbara Brickner reprising well-known works of art, and Lara Johnsons May 2002 appearance in US Glamour Magazine alongside a replica of the Venus de Milo. For a long duration, definition of beauty may change, and it depends not on your physique but on your truthfulness, behavior, creativity and self-respect.

How to Improve Self Respect?

  • Due to the preference shown to physical symmetry, many celebrities falsely claim that they are hourglass but actually rate closer to a straight figure or apple. A study of over 6,000 women carried out by researchers at the North Carolina State University around 2005 found that 46% were Banana (rectangular), just over 20% Pear, just under 14% Apple, and 8% Hourglass. So, don't tell lie. What you are respect yourself because God creates you, and any creation of God cannot be bad.
  • In the past, our female ancestors did not have such great pressure on them to be athletic. Gathering is not a frantic activity. The women would have gone around in groups, often tending to children as they gathered. If any dangerous predators turned up, they did not escape death by running, but by calling for help, throwing stones, using pointed sticks, fire, group tactics, and the like. The cost, therefore, of having fat away from the center of gravity. Do not ever blame your parents, especially mother, for your outlook or figure as she is your ancestor. Always remember mother and motherland is compared with heaven. Respect your parents, you will gain potential internally.
  • As many women are all too aware, women are often a bit plumper than men, and here, too, scientists have found clues to the differences by studying other creatures. Examining the enzymes involved in lipid metabolism throughout the Mammalian kingdom, scientists find that lipoprotein lipase, the main enzyme responsible for storing fat, is partly controlled by reproductive hormones. There was a definite cost of a paunch. Paunches are not good in all senses. This is the truth, eternal truth. Don't make your physique according to demand of others. Build yourself perfectly, truly. If you are young then start exercising or practice yoga. Exercise improves self-confidence a lot.
  • Try to be creative. It is not easy to create something unique. You need not to innovate a big thing. Try from small things, like, try to write a poem yourself, maintain a diary, research on cosmetics, embroidery, tailoring etc. Who knows you may be a well-known person in future. For a celebrity, his/her outlook hardly matters. It is easy to build a bad reputation but try to establish yourself in such a field that you can say what you are in front of all.
  • Our body is like a temple and our soul is the God inside that temple. So, You have the right to make you beautiful. Research what costumes fit you good, look better on you. Use cosmetics to make you clean and bright. Don't bother what other saying if you are black and trying to be fair, it is your inborn right. Pranayama is such a process that makes you bright and beautiful from inside.

However, Classical Beauty is centered on the idea of beauty as a timeless, ageless, size less way of life. A single defining characteristic, a gene from your personality or may be from your body, that is unique yet universal. It's not quite grace or poise or sophistication - it's beauty, Classical Beauty, Classical Ideal of Beauty.

What is Taught in Beauty Schools?

The question as to just what, exactly, is taught in beauty school is quite a commonly asked one. The typical questioner will tend to be someone like a father, or an uncle, who is told by his daughter (or niece) that - after carefully weighing her options - she has decided that she will be going to a beauty school! Now the man understands what is taught in, say, a business school. He also understands what is taught in a medical school. What is taught in dentistry or a law schools are also things he can imagine. But beauty school? What is taught in beauty school? What is a beauty-school, in the first place?

Now in order to bring ourselves to a point where we can appreciate what is taught in a beauty school, it would be a good idea to appreciate the fact that beauty is an art, and a fine art at that. To the casual observer, the various things that are done in the pursuit of beauty seem to be very simple things: hair plaiting (or other hair treatment), nail painting, facial treatment, manicure, pedicure...these seem to be very simple things. But to the person involved in them, there is simply no telling the difficulty that is in involved in them. True, they may not be physically taxing things, but it is the finesse with which they have to be handled, and the rather delicate nature of the people on whom they are done, which makes them difficult. Such understanding gives us a vantage point from where we can get to appreciate what is taught in beauty schools.

One of the most fundamental things that are taught in beauty-schools is simply the appreciation of beauty. At this stage, the students are not even being told how to make their clients beautiful, but simply how to appreciate beauty. Unless you can appreciate beauty, there is no way you can give it to someone else.

Another fundamental thing that students in beauty-schools learn is how to make them beauty - having gained an appreciation of the beauty concept. People won't trust you with the task of making them beautiful when you happen to be quite a mess yourself. A beautician has to be beautiful in one or another, and the more it can be clear that her beauty is as a result of deliberate effort, the more confident would her clients be in entrusting her with their looks.

Yet another set of things that students in beauty-schools will learn are the various procedures through which beauty can be 'artificially created' or enhanced. We are talking about the whole range of technical skills here: from facial treatment skills, to hair treatment and styling skills, and onto procedures such as manicures and pedicures...which are the specific things that the beautician's clients will be looking for, in terms of services.

Refined people skills, sales and marketing as well as the fundamentals of psychology would be other things that students in beauty schools will be taught. The latter would be useful when you take into consideration the fact that most of the clients who seek a beauticians services not only want to be beautified, but also reassured about their beauty and general worth as human beings.

Beauty Myth and the Cinderella Complex: Youth Beauty And Money - Is That All There Is?

She places her jaded heart in a small begging bowl and kneels before him. He dispenses his affection like loose change - amusing himself with her look of gratitude. For a fleeting moment they both pretend that an exchange of value has taken place. She remembers a time when he wanted her with passion. She remembers a time when they all did tricks for her. She remembers who she was and the power of seduction; the power of youth, a pretty face, sexuality and vitality. She dreamed dreams of all things possible. Of course the biggest dream of all echoes through her girl-child mind "I want to be a bride". She so vividly remembers her wedding day, it was all she ever wanted and often thinks of it as her 'princess day'.

Daddy called her Princess as he tucked her into bed at night. She believed she was his princess and never questioned his predictions of one day becoming a beautiful woman, falling madly in love and living happily ever after.

What a joke. What a great big fat lie. Was she really so deluded? Was it bad luck, bad judgment, bad choices or is the dream for only 'the others'. It probably never occurred to her that a Princess by definition must stay young and beautiful.

Cinderella probably started it all and it was reinforced over and over in books, movies, conversations and culture.

As a child she wondered about 'Him' and played dress-up games with her friends. They were all called Mrs. and prepared tea for when Mr. came home. They had bride dolls and baby dolls. They imagined and designed their future wedded bliss. He, was handsome, successful, rich and romantic.

Girls were not really expected to worry too much with things like education or finance. That was unless you were a 'Plain Jane'. No, boys don't like girls if they are too smart anyway. Beauty is the key - beauty is everything. Beauty is your ticket into 'happily ever after'.

Happily ever after always had me a bit baffled. Most girls seemed to be very comfortable with the story ending at happily ever after. It nagged at me a bit - well actually it worried me quite a lot. I kind of perceived it to be a little like death. It seemed to me that when you got married your story finished. If happily ever after was so wonderful then why didn't it become another story; an even better story?

Another thing that really confused me was that as a teenager we were all very obsessed with our looks and working our magic, but something seemed very, very strange. The married women in my town were anything but examples of happily ever after. I don't mean to be unkind, but these women really scared me. The men were neither princes nor charming.

(I wondered about the girl who kissed the frog who became the prince. A lot of warts I would expect and probably that's not too far from reality either.)

Well I don't know who had warts or who had what; I was just observing and wondering. I saw men who drank too much and yelled too loud. Women in thread bare dresses and grubby little kids hanging off them. Hair in plastic curlers and clothes pegs in mouths. Daytime soaps and talkback radio. I certainly knew nothing about 'all the riches in the land'. Enough to buy fags for the week and a punt on the pony's maybe, but no diamonds or mink coats which were the status symbols at the time.

Things have changed a little since then and women of today are at least questioning some of these issues. Thankfully, woman now are gaining education, good jobs and independent incomes. Many, are also finding they are quite capable of looking after children on their own rather than enduring abusive relationships. To hear women talk you would think that they really have analyzed and resolved their Cinderella conflicts, but have they?

Does intellect really root out those childhood expectations? Do we still believe that a woman must be beautiful to attract and keep a mate? How much of our happiness and security depends of our youth and sexuality?

Aren't successful, intelligent, middle aged women still secretly dreaming of 'Him'. One marriage, two marriage, three marriage, four!

Perhaps if Cindella Part 2 had ever been written we might have discovered that Cinderella did indeed live happily ever after. She might have passed through the natural stages of life with grace and charm. She may have surrendered the things of youth easily and naturally as she evolved into a complete and competent woman within her own right. Perhaps her prince's initial lust and fascination gave way to a deeper respect, friendship and trust that formed such a bond and deep genuine love, that they did indeed live happily ever after. Isn't it possible that her warmth, generosity, wisdom, humour and true nature were of greater value as they both evolved?

I do believe that this could be a likely scenario. I certainly appreciate the appeal of youth, beauty and sensuality, but it is not my measure of human value. These things would probably gain my attention for about ten minutes. Now, I am not going to suggest that good looking people are dumb or vacuous, although this is often very stereotypical, it's not right either. Being good looking does not make a person stupid anymore than being plain makes someone more interesting. We also need to accept that being wealthy is not a measure of value as a human being. Money is good and can make life on many levels a little easier, but it doesn't make all wealthy men ideal husbands nor does it mean that lacking wealth makes a man an inferior partner.

We just need to do away with all of these unrealistic expectations and judgments and define what is true for ourselves. It is certainly easy enough to just sit for a minute or two and ask yourself why you do love the people you do. I think that your list might be very similar to mine; integrity, humour, empathy, warmth, intelligence and anything that engages or connects me to that person. I really would rather be sitting with a funny, interesting fat boy at the back of the room rather than staring up at a male stripper on stage - that's for sure.

If we are able to get clear on what we need and want then maybe we could dismantle and reconstruct our Cinderella delusion.

Now, this is where things get really interesting. Billions and billions of dollars change hands due to clever marketing tactic cashing in on our Cinderella belief. In the extreme, women can be so convinced that beauty is the only measure of self worth that they will literally destroy themselves. Do you think I'm kidding? Warm, wonderful, valuable, clever, talented people are going to take themselves right out of the game of life. They are going to do it deliberately and willingly and I will tell you why.

Brainwashing. It is so incredibly easy to do as we have already bought into the princess belief as children. Reinforcing the idea that being beautiful makes us happy or that lack of beauty makes us undesirable is the perfect marketing formula. Powerful and effective marketing requires subtle, consistent and emotionally charged interpretation. Everywhere we look we see imagery of beauty and youth attaining success, love, romance, sex, wealth, admiration, security and happiness. Not so obvious is the underlying message that without beauty, we are not worthy nor are we capable of having these things.

Men are victimized too, but their version of self worth is tied in to money, success, power and prestige. Lives are being totally destroyed by the belief in this BS! It's not true. It's not even logical and it's as clear as day, but we still believe it. Not only do we believe it; we actually promote it ourselves. The effect of this kind of marketing is that people diminish themselves to the point of total worthlessness and disappear into themselves. The really sad and pathetic motivation behind it all is simply greed and making money. And we have bought it all; the belief, the solution and the products. We allowed them to break us and then to fix us and we paid a lot of money for the privilege.

Get this - some clever-dick is going to package a jar of mud, put it in a crystal jar and go on TV and convince us that this gunk will smooth out wrinkles and give you a youthful, alluring completion. His mate, a bigger and more ambitious conman can't believe the amount of dollars rolling in and decides to crank it up a bit. He has a magic syringe which pumps poison into your face, paralyses your expression and calls it 'a cure for frown and smile lines'. It's phenomenal! He makes a bundle and inspires many others to come up with all kinds gimmicks and gadgets.

Well, no one in their right mind would believe this nonsense!

That is unless it's repeated over and over. That's the thing with brainwashing; it needs repetition. It also helps to have testimonials; we like to know others have tried it and can confirm it works for them. Celebrities (another marketing tool) wouldn't endorse crap if it wasn't true would they? Beautiful celebrities (The epitome of happily ever after) show us their secrets to success:

Silicone bags inserted into breasts

Vacuums sucking out thighs

Daisy Duck lips

Acid skin peels

Plastic nose, cheeks and chin

And sew and tighten up that vagina!

You have got to be joking - no one would be fooled into doing that! Billions of bucks say that you are wrong. All it takes is to convince you that you are not okay, you are not worthy, not loveable and not ever going to be happy. And that is so easy to do because right from the start you were brainwashed into believing that love is only for the young, the beautiful and the rich. You probably don't realize this either, but you, yes you, are a part of the propaganda and you are endorsing and promoting it.

Your ridiculous stiletto shoes which have deformed your feet and weakened your knees and ankles are a part of the game. The yo-yo dieting, binging and purging. Your outrageously expensive clothing, perfumes and cosmetics are all a part you play in perpetuating 'The Beauty Myth'.

Now don't get me wrong here, I am not opposed to people looking good. I totally agree that looking good can make us feel good. I am also aware that looking good can be attractive and alluring. BUT, it's Not All That!

It's the lies that I find offensive; the stupidity and the destruction that those lies perpetuate. I'm not talking about make-up covering blemishes or enhancing skin tone, I am talking about the cosmetic industry covering up true beauty. I am talking about The Cinderella complex; our own participation in maintaining these unrealistic and dangerous beliefs. Women are competing with other women in a battle of illusion; disrespecting and destroying themselves and their sisters.

This is what it all boils down to: We have been brainwashed into believing that youth and beauty equals happiness - which translates into love and security. That's the whole Cinderella quest. We all want to love and to be loved and feel secure. What we have all been brainwashed into believing is that love and security are only available to the young, beautiful or rich.

Men haven't escaped either; they are suffering the Prince Charming scandal as well. Money is the mark of a man. Short, fat, bald, cigar smoking millionaires dripping with young hopeful starlets - what a pathetic sight to see! But someone obviously believes it.

I'm not trying to downgrade wealth; having money is good, much better than not and ditto for beauty. The point is that we have accepted it as a measure of human value. Much worst than that though, we allow ourselves to be judged and we judge others by this yardstick. Isn't it time that we set examples of human value by being true to who we are? Isn't beauty really just a mask? Let's all just peel it off and have a peek at what's inside.

Every age has its own beauty. In many cultures the elders are the wise and respected members of the community. Or more succinctly the most loved and honoured. Isn't it time we all took a more realistic look at these ideals and worked towards reshaping and reassessing our values? It's time for Prince Charming to show some integrity. Tonight as you hot wax your legs, think of me; curled up on the lounge wearing pajamas and Ugg boots, laughing, talking and loving my old man. Heh, I'm no Cinderella myself!

Ten Beauty Basics You Should Never Be Without!

With the current economy, we are all looking to stretch our budget as far as it can go. However, many of us still want to look and feel good about our appearance. Beauty products can be something that we simply do not, or cannot, include in our budget. This list of beauty basics helps you to prioritize what you should have in your makeup bag, purse, tote, or office desk drawer at all times. You can keep up your gorgeous appearance while still meeting your budget!

1. Mascara. Great mascara can open up your eyes, give you a look of being awake and alert and is an easy way to look a bit more polished and professional.
Beauty Basic Tip: Stick to basic brown or black for work, try a colored mascara to take your look from day to evening!

2. Concealer. Concealer is a must-have for any make up bag! Brighten up dark circles under your eyes, cover up a blemish, or help even out some ruddiness in your skin tone.
Beauty Basic Tip: Many beauty lines now have a variety of shades of concealers in one compact, and this can be great to have different options.

3. Eye Brightener. Find a product that has a yellow tint (sounds odd, but wait until you try it!) and apply to eyelids if they are dark and dot and blend in the very inner corner of your eyes. I guarantee it will take 5 years off of your appearance, or at least make you look like you got an extra 5 hours of sleep!
Beauty Basic Tip: Eye brighteners can double as a nice base upon which to apply eye shadow. You will get the best color effect from your shadow, and they will wear longer with less "creasing".

4. Eyeliner. A great eyeliner can accent your eyes in a number of ways and make your eyes "pop", help you look more polished and take a day look into evening when you don't have time to go home. Many are intimidated to use liners, but there are now amazing liquid liners on the market that make it incredibly easy to apply and create a nice, even line.
Beauty Basic Tip: You can line your eyes and smudge it to give the look of eye shadow, or leave the line more defined for a more polished look.

5. Lip liner. A perfect lip liner should not really show, but enhance the shape of your lip. When you utilize lip liner, you will find your lipstick wears longer and you find that your lip stick or lip gloss does not "feather". Typically a neutral color will do the trick with almost any skin tone, or lipstick color.
Beauty Basic Tip: Use a neutral lip liner on your bottom lip and a a bit of your eye brightener in to accent the bow of your top lip to make your lips look fuller and enhance the natural shape of your lips.

6. Lip gloss. A lip gloss can be worn in a variety of ways, so it should be your lips' best friend! Wear it to moisturize your lips and for a light daytime look. Wear it with liner for a light glow to your lips. Layer it over your lipstick to lighten it up.
Beauty Basic Tip: Dot a bit of your favorite lip gloss in the middle of your bottom lip after apply lipstick to make your lips look fuller.

7. One "Signature" lipstick. Find one color that works for you perfectly. Having a signature color helps you to always have the right look for any occasion. For some who prefer lip gloss, a lovely lipstick color can take your look from day to evening.
Beauty Basic Tip: For those who do not like highly pigmented lipsticks and prefer a more natural look, "nude" or neutral shades are very popular and are typically pretty easy for women of a variety of skin tones to wear well.

8. Powder. Many of us now use mineral powders for foundation-style coverage, which can provide wonderful coverage and often is easier to use for sensitive skin. Carrying a loose or compact powder can help eliminate shine throughout the day, give you a nice, matte finish and extend the coverage of your mineral powder or foundation.
Beauty Basic Tip: Your powder can even provide light daytime coverage for your skin.

9. Bronzer powder or cream. I personally love the look of a touch of sun; I think that it looks healthy and natural. A great bronzer gives a nice sun-kissed glow to the skin without any potential skin damage from the real thing!
Beauty Basic Tip: Apply bronzer with a light hand! Cream bronzers often give the most natural appearance as they are easier to apply and control.

10. Tweezers. You should definitely have a great pair of tweezers. A nicely groomed brow can make an incredible difference in your appearance. Keeping a pair of tweezers handy helps you catch any stray hairs that could be embarrassing.
Beauty Basic Tip: Tweeze in daylight, often the lights in our bathrooms or powder rooms are not sufficient to catch the potential stray hairs that you will see in the "light of day"!

With these ten beauty basics you can create a multitude of looks for day, for work, for dinner out, or for dancing the night away! Best of all, these beauty basics can be found in any drug store or mass retailer and need not be a burden on your budget.
